Martin Roosaare - Flowers

Martin Headshot.jpg

Originally from Estonia, Martin Roosaare received his dance training at Virginia School of the Arts, De La Dance Company, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He went on to perform professionally with BalletMet and Nashville Ballet, dancing works by renowned choreographers including Twyla Tharp, George Balanchine, Ohad Naharin, Edwaard Liang, James Kudelka, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, Jerome Robbins, Val Caniparoli, and others.

In 2022, Martin co-founded Azara Ballet alongside his wife and creative partner, Kate Flowers. Since the company’s founding, he has choreographed multiple original works for Azara Ballet, including Kodumaa, Lost and Found, 7 Hours, and The Woman in White, among others. His choreographic voice has evolved toward a more grounded and instinctive contemporary movement style, often prioritizing emotional authenticity, human connection, and intuitive physical storytelling over traditional structure or vocabulary.

Beyond the stage, Martin is deeply passionate about creating inclusive and accessible artistic spaces. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2020, he brings a unique perspective to his work and is a strong advocate for neurodivergent representation within the arts. Through both his choreography, work in the studio and community outreach efforts, he strives to create performances and environments that are welcoming, relatable, and human-centered.

One of Martin’s proudest artistic moments was restaging his work Kodumaa on Azara Ballet and inviting fellow Estonians living in Florida to experience the performance, a meaningful opportunity to celebrate his heritage, reconnect with community, and share a deeply personal piece of work through dance.
